My Dear Auntie
Father arrived home late on Monday night - Alec going to meet him at the
Auckland Station.
He had wired us that he would **** for house here - he had hardly thought he would manage it. They had good journeys both ways & no mishaps fortunately. We were so relieved to hear from him that the pain had eased up and that they could see an improvement even in the few visits to you.
However you have still a very long way to go and from Mac's letter to father yesterday we hear that you had a return of the pain in the back. We were very sorry to hear about that.
I've not been able to write sooner for going back to work has required all my energy and I've rested each evening now that the troublesome tooth is out I have nothing to retard my complete return to energy. I've not lost weight - or very little as I've put it on since last years holiday it is gratifying. I wonder how you are faring in that respect. I was very spoilt with so many nourishing tit-bits. The Public Hospitals are not usually very generous with such extras. Soon you should be able to move to somewhere where there are more possible and lots more sunlight. I find the sunshine most helpful. In Wellington there are so many parts that are shut off from a maximum sun with the hills.
Our weather is now ideal and father is fast catching up on his cleaning and weeding. Once we have a Housekeeper again in residence & I feel more energetic I'll get at the poor flower garden. It looks pathetic.
What a week of stress and strain for the whole world and Europe in particular. Our wireless went wrong last week - a ***** **** Kevin thinks. He and Enid came over last Sat.
Yes I came home to a dark house on Friday. The *** *** somewhere but no father or Mac. I called up Kevin - another handyman. He and Enid are well, both asking for you and trust you are taking every precaution against further pain. A relapse can do so much harm as i well know.
I'll post down Glen's latest letter soon - they are going down to Portrush? for September writes Glen. Their first visit to Ireland. Whether they hurried home with all the trouble of the past week I've yet to hear.
My apologies for the blot. I'm sitting with the pad on my knee - Comfortable but not good for posture or writing.
I've lots of stamps for you but I'm saving them up.
Gusty presented us with a heifer calf early Monday morning to our delight. Now dear Auntie our thoughts are with you continually and we'll be writing again soon. Don't trouble to reply we'll hear from one another
Yours Lovingly
Mary
