On the 7th Inst at his residence Dromore House Castleshane, County Monaghan,
Mr John Cole formerly of Irish Hill County Down, in his 84th year

The information in the Tithe Aplotments 1834 and the Griffith's Valuations of 1863-4 put John Cole of Dromore at Irish Hill County Down for most of his life. If these records all relate to John Cole of Dromore then he only moved to Dromore after 1864 when he would have been 72. We thought that he lived at Dromore near Creevagh where he was buried however according to his death notice he lived in Castleshane.

In 1870 when his youngest daughter, Jane Cole, married James Fry Rea she has in her marriage certificate that her address was Dromore County Monaghan assuming she was living with her parents before she got married, John and Betty Cole were in Dromore in 1870. On the modern Irish maps there is a Dromore on the outskirts of Castleshane

John Cole died in 1875 and Betty in 1877 - in James McMurray Cole's letter written in Clones 1880 to Robert Bell Cole he says that the family at Dromore are all well so it was still in family after John & Betty Cole's deaths.
