According to the records so far he did not go to America until 1898 so from this we conclude John and his family were in the Isle of Man from 1886 to 1898. John's youngest brother William Newell Cole came out to the Isle of Man and married Fanny Bawden in 1894 at Foxdale, Isle of Man
